| " I just wanted to take a moment to say "THANK YOU"; you are the BEST!
I got back into bowling about 18 months ago after being away from it due to health for about 15-20 years. In this year's time, I have been to 3 different pro shops (so they called themselves), purchased 5 new bowling balls (all by recommendation from said "pro shops"), all in search of a set up that I was both comfortable and consistent with the set up.
Now I do have an irregular shaped thumb, which each of the other pro shops has either tried , but failed to custom fit the shape of the hole, or has drilled it sooooo large that it has forced me to use excessive grip pressure.
Within the last 4 weeks alone I have had the thumb holes plugged & re drilled 3 times with different set-ups, none of which have shown satisfactory results
Somehow I've still managed to carry a 178 ave. on my Monday night lge. & 188 ave. on Wed. night, but without any consistency or confidence. Example: high game 256, low game 123. High series:579, low series 490. Been able to shoot at least one 200 game every night, but still not shoot a 600 series (best of: 256, 123, 200 for a 579)
NOW FOR THE GOOD NEWS:
One night while searching the web, I came across a website for "Aleta Sill's Bowling World" and drove the 45 miles to stop in and check them out. This turned out to be the best move I have made in a long time.
!!!WOW!!! This is the first word that comes to mind when I walked in. It was a pleasure to see that the store surpassed my expectations. (the website is great, but the store is better)
They had the largest selection of everything to do with bowling equipment (not just balls) that I have seen in one location.
Shinning even brighter than the display was the staff of people working. You could tell they truly loved what the do, and are the best at what they do.
Mike was the first one to greet me and after spending a few minutes of going over my concerns, then introduced me to Lisa.
Lisa took the time to look at my equipment, watch me throw a couple of shots, then measure my hand. She made some suggestions on changing my grip, showing how she would handle my thumbhole, and provided an overall evaluation of what she felt would help me out.
With all this new info I let them plug and refit one of my balls. The next day when I picked it up, Michelle came out to watch me throw a couple shots. She pointed out a few problems with my approach and offered to bring out her video equipment so I could see what I was doing wrong. It was amazing what a difference it makes to watch yourself doing something, as opposed to someone just telling you what you need to do.
Well needless to say, I had Lisa re-do another piece of my equipment and took a 45 minute lesson with Michelle. I'm happy to report that after 3-5 games of just working on my approach, my next 3 series were 603 (practice), 621 (practice) and first night of Monday Lge. 659.
This letter turned out to be much longer than I intended it to be. It started out to be a Thank You, but turned into a testimonial on the over & above service and knowledge of Mike, Lisa and Michelle at "Aleta Sill's Bowling World." (Wish I could have met Aleta; she was out of commission with knee surgery)
Please feel free to use me as a reference or have them give me a call because you folks have put the "Pro" into "Pro Shop"
Sincerely,
Steve Turchanik
